Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to assist eligible households pay for energy services, including gas, electric and furnace repair assistance. Applications are now open for priority applicants starting October 1st, 2024. Scroll below for additional details.
North Lawndale Employment Network is proud to partner with the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County, Inc. (CEDA) to provide a variety of assistance programs for eligible households to preserve their energy services.

We offer a wide variety of Utility Assistance programs including:

Water Bill Assistance

Gas and Electric Bill Assistance

People's Gas Share the Warmth Program

ComEd Residential Hardship Program

Applications for the 2024-2025 CEDA Service Year open October 1st, 2024 for Priority Period1 applicants. These groups can apply during Priority Period 1:

Households with an adult age 60+
-
Households with a person living with a disability
-
Households with children age 5 and under
-
Households that are disconnected from their utilities or are at risk of becoming disconnected
​
​All other eligible households can apply starting November 1st, 2024.

Our Financial Opportunity Center® Resource Room and staff are available to assist people with financial concerns all year round, and can offer individual financial coaching and connection to local programs such as our partnership with the Nourishing Hope Online Marketplace. Additionally, our FOC Staff are continuing to accept applications for the People's Gas Share the Warmth program and the City of Chicago Utility Billing Relief (UBR) Program. Share the Warmth is for current People's Gas customers and offers a maximum of $200 assistance for unpaid gas bills. The Utility Billing Relief(UBR) program is for City of Chicago residents and is a 12 month payment plan that offers total past bill forgiveness upon successful completion after 12 months.

Each program has specific income and eligibility requirements and require applicants to provide required documentation. These documents include:

Proof of 30-day income for all residents over 18 (wages, Social Security benefits, TANF, AABD, Unemployment)

Your most recent gas, electric, or water bills
-
Social Security numbers for all household members, if available
*Undocumented residents are also welcome to apply
