We honor and celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr., a fearless champion for justice, dignity, and the liberation of Black people.
Rev. Jackson’s powerful declaration, “I am somebody,” was never just a slogan. It was a movement. A reminder that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and treated with humanity, no matter their zip code, their past, or the barriers placed in their way.
Today, Rev. Jackson’s message is more urgent than ever. At a time when there are real and coordinated efforts to erase Black history, dismantle DEI, and attack the very idea of humanity and personhood, his call to keep hope alive remains foundational. It reminds us that our stories matter, our communities matter, and our futures are worth fighting for.
At the North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN), we carry that same spirit forward every day. We believe in fair chances, in opportunity, and in the undeniable truth that people are more than their circumstances. Our mission is rooted in empowerment, helping individuals and families build economic stability, reclaim purpose, and move toward transformation.
Rev. Jesse Jackson’s life was a testament to resilience, advocacy, and unwavering faith in the power of people. We will continue to uplift his legacy by doing the work, serving our community, defending dignity, and standing firm in the belief that every person is somebody.
