North Lawndale Employment Network, Sweet Beginnings, LLC and the beelove care are closed Tuesday, January 21st 2025 due to extreme cold temperatures in Chicago. NLEN staff in our Workforce, Administrative, and FOC departments will be working remotely. If you are a current NLEN client with an existing appointment with an NLEN staff member, contact them directly if you need any support meeting remotely. The Financial Opportunity Center® Resource Room will not be taking any new appointments for utility bill or benefits application assistance until regular hours are resumed.
We encourage everyone to stay warm and avoid prolonged travel or exposure to extreme cold temperatures through Wednesday, January 22nd. You can find information and resources in this Block Club Chicago article and in the resources below.
The Chicago Residential Heat Ordinance. Landlords and property managers providing central heating must provide adequate heating at a 68 degree minimum during the daytime. You can find information about the Chicago Heat Ordinance at this link. If your apartment is not heated adequately to these minimum standards, contact the Law Center for Better Housing.
Chicago Warming Shelters. Chicago operates 6 Warming Shelters across the city. Additionally, libraries and park fieldhouses also operate as warming centers during periods of extreme cold. You can find information about the local Warming Shelters in the graphic below:
Contact 311. Dial 311 if you need to find your nearest warming center, need placement in a city shelter, or to report no heat in your residential building. More information at this link.
Stay safe and warm from all of us at NLEN!
